Week 5, Sunday Post-Execution - Eichi

[They share a dorm, so as always, it's not hard to run into Eichi. When Ion sees him, he stands from where he was sitting.]

I didn't get a chance to tell you yesterday...but I'm sorry about what happened at the trial.

[It was in no way his fault and he had no control over it but! That's Ion for you.]

Ah, Ion-kun.

[Despite how serious and quiet he'd been at the execution, he puts on a smile when he comes in to see Ion.]

Please don't worry. I'm certain that Dazai-san didn't mean harm... And your words, above everyone else, were certainly kind.

I'm sure that he didn't, as well.

[And he's not about to speak ill of the dead--the innocent and dead.]

But...still...it put you in an unfortunate position. A kind defense was the least I could offer to try and fix the harm that was done.

[And being of a weak constitution, himself, he wasn't about to resort to backhanded compliments.]

To be honest, it's a bit of a relief. This ability hasn't been very useful at all, but perhaps now that others are aware, it may be that I can become useful.

[He touches his fingers to his own chin, his other hand holding his elbow.]

Or, as others have warned me in the past, it could paint me as a target of some sort. I wonder which it will be? Or, because of this weak body, will I still fade to the background? I can't say for sure.

[The different extremes shock Ion, his eyes widening. Realizing his mouth is agape, he closes it and folds his hands together.]

I understand how you feel about your ability. Mine should be able to help others, too, but instead I've just had to hide it.

[For different reasons than Eichi, of course, but, he can understand just the same. That said...]

You're bright and vibrant and inspiring, so I don't think any of those things will be the case for you.
