Week 1, Thursday - Sousei
[Hi, my generic starter involves Ion lost in thought and accidentally rounding a corner into a person, so that's what's happening here--sorry, Sousei. He drops his staff in the shuffle and quickly hurries to pick it back up, already spouting apologies.]
Oh, no, I'm terribly sorry! That was completely my fault--you're alright, aren't you?
[And then his eyes land on Sousei's scars...and his smile falters. Normally, he wouldn't pay them any particular mind (that would be incredibly rude), but the thing is...he has them: those same exact scars. But...how could that be possible? It stuns him to silence.]

Sousei reacts immediately when Ion runs into him, reaching out to steady the other. Despite the close quarters, they haven't really spoken--
Though that's about to change, he sees.
A quirked eyebrow, and:]
... Did you make a wish, or did you simply wake up this way?
no subject
Sorry, yes. These were caused by the wishing well. Strange how we're all coming to accept the effect that it has on others, don't you think?
[He pulls a smile back on.]
no subject
[That is!! Very relevant!! To his interests!!]
no subject
[How...silly! Ion glances away.]
I should have expected something like this, considering how many of the other wishes turned out.
no subject
You wished for a way for everyone to tell you apart from the other who looks just like you, and for your troubles you received scars exactly like mine.
no subject
[Well, this is uncomfortable. Ion knows he can't just avoid eye contact forever, so he steels himself and faces Sousei head on once again.]
This is the first time we're talking, so I had no idea until just now the likeness.
no subject
... I see. [doubt.png]
Very well then. You are correct that this is the first time we are talking; I would like to ask you some questions with that in mind.
no subject
Of course. I'm happy to answer anything you'd like! And despite having run into you so clumsily, I'd like to say that it's nice to meet you in a more formal regard.
no subject
The pleasure is mine, presumably.
[Maybe.]
Your name is... Ion, correct? What differentiates you from the other? [RIGHT TO THE POINT HERE.]
no subject
[Everything's fine!]
A few things, though some are subtle enough that only the two of us actively notice. We've been asking around all week for opinions, and the general consensus is the way that we carry ourselves. My presence is, it seems, more subdued. Ah, I'm also a little taller.
[He pauses, genuinely unsure.]
Does that help at all, or would you like anything more specific?
no subject
[S...sorry Ion.]
Your appearance, your presence... those are small details that are worth noting, but not what I was asking about. You are two different people, surely. So what is it that differentiates you from him as a person?
no subject
[If he's put off by being shut down, he doesn't show it.]
To be honest, I don't actually know him too well as a person to be able to tell you much more than my own notions on the matter. But I believe...we are individuals who see the world in a very different way, and place value in different ideals. I, for example, believe that every person has the ability to learn and grow with time, while he believes people become shackled by preconceived notions.
[Ion looks a little sad, even if his easy smile doesn't falter.]
Ah, he also possesses a sort of self-confidence that I most regrettably lack. Is that a bit more in line with what you were hoping for, or have I continued to misunderstand?
no subject
[Much better! He feels as though he understands the both of them a bit better, if only through one particular viewpoint.]
And why is it you both have the same name and appearance?
no subject
That's a little harder to explain, so please bear with me.
[He raises a hand, though, silently reassuring that he's happy to explain regardless of the generally confusing nature of the truth.]
He was born with the name Ion, and was the leader of the Order of Lorelei, the religious institution on our home of Auldrant. As such, he was given the title of Fon Master. He was well beloved by the people, and so to minimize public upset, it was decided that he should be provided with a replacement, should he become ill of health. I am that replacement.
[Are you keeping up so far? This is a bit of an info dump that he's clearly getting used to providing.]
no subject
... I see. That makes sense thus far, I suppose.
[So far so good, he's involved enough with politics to know how things like that would go.]
no subject
Because of the nature of the way I was made, I was never given any other name other than his. I was instructed to act as close to him as I possibly could, and taught everything about his past, so I could more easily take his place without anyone noticing. Because of this, it's a little difficult for me to separate my identity from his even though we aren't the same person. To our whole world, there was only ever one Fon Master Ion.
[He pauses, thoughtful.]
For me, it's been two years since his passing, and since I've taken his place. That's why we're listed as having different ages on our respective tapestries.
no subject
[But at the same time, he's here. That doesn't bother Sousei as much as it could.]
But nonetheless, you are a different person from him, with different ideals and different hopes. Hm... thank you. I understand better now your situation, I believe.
no subject
[But, as for the rest of what the other Ion used to be like...well, he's not going to spread rumors about someone else. Especially not in a game where murder is involved. So, he just smiles.]
I'm glad that was helpful; having us be confused for one another is truly the farthest from my intentions. I think we're just as shocked as everyone else.
no subject
[A quirked eyebrow at Ion, and:]
Take care that you do not become a scapegoat.
no subject
I'll...certainly try my best not to.
[But...he isn't sure. A part of him wouldn't want to protect the other Ion in such a manner. It's not his business. Whatever he does, he does to himself. And yet, at the same time, he knows in his heart he'd accept that spot. If he was told to take the fall for anything that his other did...why not follow those orders?]
Thank you.
no subject
That's far from compelling, but--]
Very well then. That is all I will say on the matter; the rest is up to you. Did you require anything else from me before I go?
no subject
No. Thank you for taking the time--I'm sorry for having run into you in the first place, but I'm glad we got to talk!
[He bows his head politely before regaining his bearing.]
I won't keep you. Take care.
